Notes from the Composer:
DW941 - A Dawn Beginning:

Standard: Grade 4
Approximate playing time: 1 min 20 secs

Written in C major, the piece, written in ABA format, starts with a two-bar descending bass line motif. The treble then carries a pretty melody, with some accompanying harmony, while the basses initiate the simple, recurring motif. The first section ends eight bars later, and then morphs into a second section, in F minor, for free basses only, with two four-bar melodies, including phrasing and accenting.

The third section is a repeat of the first, albeit with some changes. Although accuracy is requested, an abundance of dynamic markings and phrasing direction give the performer a chance to express the music emotionally rather than through technique.
