Notes from the Composer:
DW949 - Forest Waltz:

Standard: Grade 2/3
Approximate playing time: 2 min

This composition is a standard waltz (3/4 time), with an eight-bar introduction. The piece is written in D major. Its lilting main treble theme is hummable, with phrasing that provides the structure of the dance. The piece later morphs into G major in the second section, before returning to D major.

The basses (in single-note chord notation) are kept simple, and intended mainly for rhythm keeping; the most used are D major, G major, and A7th plus an occasional E minor. The piece helps the performer to read notes above the treble clef, but the treble range of the whole piece is one-and-a-half octaves.
