The first
accordion with piano keyboard was invented by the Frenchman, Bouton,
in Paris in 1852. The insturment used by Bernadette for this recording,
is an Italian made Piatanesi musette tuned accordion, fitted with
midi sensors, which enable Bernadette to combine the original musette
sounds with the latest technology. This combination, utilising the
best of the old acoustic, with modern electronics, allows Bernadette
to produce a really sensational sound.
She
also produce the sounds of a complete orchestra, combined with a
Musette accordion, all at once, to produce the ultimate in sounds.
The Musette sounds of France originated from bagpipes, which were
brought to Paris by settlers from Auvergne, who were forced to move
by the Industrial Revolution, in order to gain work. As time went
by, the accordion became more popular with the upper classes and
was accepted into the dance halls, restaurants, street parties and
in fact all forms of Paris entertainment. At the end of the 19th
century it had become entrenched in French culture.
The Musette became extremely popular in the first half of the 20th
century, and no French music was considered complete without the
musette accordion. Bernadette Conlon ancestors include a great grand
aunt of French origin.
