This cd presents the Moscow
premiere of probably the most important Semionov's compositions
- "Frescos" - the concerto for bayan, chamber orchestra
and percussion. The recording was made during the concert of the
XVth International Festival "Bayan and Bayanists" in the
Concert Hall of the Gnesin's Russian Academy of Music on December
15th, 2004. The concert was performed by the author accormpanied
by the Chamber Orchestra of the Academy. The conductor was the Honored
Artist Kazakhstan, composer, professor Gnessins RAM, Timur Mynbaev.
The idea to write
that concerto appeared a very long time ago. It was during Semionov's
work in Rostov Music Pedagogical Institute where he studied composition
under professor Anatoly Kusyakov's leadership.
Like all Semionov's
music, the concerto has a hidden program. Figurative composition
sphere is evoked by multiple artistic impressions, philosophical
reflections about God and soul, life and death. Biblical narration,
incarnated in the creation of ancient craftsmen of Church-painting
and icon-painting inspired the author for musical expression of
process of the spritual development of humanity through the Christian
idea with the orchestra and solo bayan facilities. The concerto
consists of three parts - a set of frescos that are in contrast
with character and united by common idea. The orchestra incarnates
the objective principles, descending from the nature of human society,
and the solo bayan cadences personify the confession of soul, penitence
and purgation.
The 1st part -
Passacaglia - procession to Calvary
The 2nd part - the icon of God's Mother
The 3rd part - Final, chapter consists of 2 parts: Hell, Ascension
and holy day of human soul.
