Description:
"Foreword by Viatcheslav Semionov" |
"In this era of the
internet and smart phones, I often receive letters from musicians
in different parts of our great county, as well as from Europe,
the United States and China, who are interested in my own personal
interpretation of my music.
It is difficult
to answer many questions unequivocally so I have come up with the
idea to collect my previously unissued earlier works and also some
new live versions of better known, already published compositions,
and to record them myself. In this way the 2 CD album "My Images"
was born.
This album is my
answer to all the questions which I am asked so often by professional
musicians, students, teachers and other devotees of accordion music.
Now every interested listener or performer will be able to compare
my interpretations of my music with theirs.
I always welcome
the creative ideas of other performers. Their profound and sometimes
unexpected readings give new life again and again to my musical
pieces.
Viatcheslav Semionov
Introduction
to "My Images" by Anatoly Beljaev, Peoples' Artists
of Russia |
Viatcheslav
Semionov does not require any special introduction. His bright talent
and wide international recognition speak for themselves. What stands
out in his creative activity is his gift of being a composer. An
important role in his musical evolution was played by the Rostov
Musical Conservatory, where he developed into a professional composer.
Today he is known as the author of well-known compositions for accordion
and as an important interpreter of the music of A. Kusiakov, from
whom he took a course of composition.
A great inspiration for the works of his first period was the folk-lore
of the Don and his cooperation with the Don Cossacks ensemble. Shortly
afterwards, his own ideas and themes began to emerge. So was born
the First Sonata, the main theme of which was a confession of the
rebellious soul of an artist.
The concerto "Frescoes" written for accordion, chamber
orchestra and percussion, was written at the height of Semionov's
creativity. In it, he expresses his thoughts about the spiritual
development of humanity through the Christian idea.
Semionov's music is a unique phenomenon in the landscape of the
art of the accordion. Some of his works have become a benchmark
of chamber music for accordion. It is no coincidence that he became
a laureate of two international composers' competitions: in 2000
in Moscow and in 2008 in Glasgow. Semionov's works are part of the
Anthology of compositions for button accordion". His works
are published in Russia, France, Switzerland, Germany, China and
the United States.
Viatcheslav Semionov has a strongly pronounced individual style.
His music attracts the listener not by showy effects but by its
depth, its imagery and its evocation of emotions. As a mature artist,
exploring new paths in the accordion repertoire, he has earned recognition
around the world. His major works are saturated with emotional heat,
reflecting the philosophy of the struggle between good and evil.
Each piece is a complete musical image with its own sphere of intonation,
harmony and rhythm. And throughout there is a pure and sincere attitude
towards the music.
Concerning his compositional technique there must also be mentioned
his talent for melody. Melody is the foundation of music.
As the Great Russian composer Georgi Sviridov once said: "If
music wants to express the human soul, its sorrow and joy, its secret
aspirations, it should return to melody
" So no wonder
that Semionov's music is constantly played at musical contests as
part of the mandatory repertoire. It is often part of the concert
programs of accordion virtuosos from different counties.
Semionov's creations are always based on visual images. His music
is flexible, spacious and colorful. He also has a perfect knowledge
of the expressive capacities of the modern accordion, which he uses
fully and creatively.
Interestingly, Semionov himself is constantly making use of his
talent for engineering and working on improving the sound of the
instrument. By means of a special design of the reed blocks he managed
to make the tone of the free bass keyboard surprisingly gentle,
pure and also aligned to the sound of the right keyboard. The listener
will notice this on the present album. In 1986 Viatcheslav Semionov
succeeded in realizing his idea to fuse the accordion case of a
well-known Italian producer "Pigini" with Russian voices
of such remarkable masters as Vasiliev, Malyshev, Gavrilin. This
resulted in a unique accordion with Russian soul - "Pigini-Semionov".
Viatcheslav Semionov is not only a great accordion player, a composer
and a public figure. He is also an outstanding teacher who has created
his own school and raised a galaxy of highly respected musicians.
Over the years, with full dedication of his time and energy, the
eminent professor is working in this difficult and respected area
of education.
Many students dream of studying under his supervision. The victories,
numbering more than 80, of his students in various prestigious competitions,
are worthy of the Guinness Book of Records. The master classes which
Semionov leads in different countries are always met with great
enthusiasm by young musicians and are always very successful.
Semionov's work in the musical educational system stimulates rather
than obstructs his tour activity. His wonderful performing skill
and the unique sound of his instrument have brought him into the
first line of well-known international artists. Viatcheslav Semionov
holds the prestigious title of Peoples' Artists of Russia and his
concerts always arouse special interest. He has traveled all over
the former Soviet Union and performed in more than 40 countries
worldwide. In 2005 he received the "Order of Friendship"
award.
Semionov successfully solves the most complex musical tasks of the
performer. His style features a stylistic accuracy, variety of articulations
and spectacular technique with strong evocation of emotions and
colorful dynamic palette. Viatcheslav Semionov is the pride of our
national culture and of the modern Russian school of accordion art.
He is a role model and an excellent example for our young talented
performers.
The unique album "My Images" is a great achievement of
this outstanding musician who celebrated his 60th anniversary a
few years ago.
This album presents many of his well-known compositions: "Bulgarian
Suite" is presented in the new version, the complete 1st and
2nd " Don Rhapsody" are recorded for the first time, both
" Children's Suites", two Caprices and also some new works
of recent years.
In each of his pieces there is a hidden program, expressed by a
vivid emotional theme of musical material, lush harmonies and a
distinctive rhythm.
Listening to " Basqueriad" you will feel and almost be
able to visualize the atmosphere of " corrida" (part 1).
In part 3 "A journey of Divertimento" you will immediately
recognize a Russian theme, a Tartar's dance and a Country music
style.
The recent works - 2 romantic meditations, Caprice No. 3 "Polar
Lights" "In the Land of Dreams" are inspired by the
spirit of impressionism which has rarely been expressed in the works
of composers writing for the accordion.
These works give the listener a way to go deeper into an inner world,
to find and hear what can only be found and heard at moments when
music sounds. There are no preset ideas, but there is a latitude
of an imaginative perception of music depending on the state, the
mood and the attitude of the listener.
From a cognitive point of view the musical material of this album
cannot be overestimated: a history of the development of our contemporary
original repertoire for the accordion is colorfully displayed here.
Some of the pieces presented on this album have already become classics
of their genre.
I wish our Master many more years of creativity to write new masterpieces
for the instrument which is so much loved bye all people - the accordion.
